The Thai Method

Thai medical massage can move deeper into the mechanical functions of the body, working with deep muscle tension and joint mobility as well as nerve, muscle and ligament balancing.

 ต้นกำเนิดเกิดจากเหล่าโยคีในอินเดีย ที่บวชเข้ามาในศาสนาพุทธ แต่ยังอาศัยการดัดตนเป็นการรักษาสุขภาพ และใช้ความรู้นั้น บำบัดเพื่อนภิกษุที่เจ็บป่วยจากอาการปวดเส้น ปวดเมื่อยกล้ามเนื้อ

          จนเมื่อพระพุทธศาสนาเจริญรุ่งเรือง ผ่านมาทางประเทศจีน และแผ่ขยายเข้ามายังประเทศไทย โดยเหล่าพระสงฆ์จากอินเดีย ศิลปการนวดจึงถูกถ่ายทอดติดตามมาด้วย
          ซึ่งมีหลักฐานยืนยันการนวดที่เก่าแก่ที่สุด ก็คือหลักศิลาจารึกที่ขุดพบที่ป่ามะม่วง ซึ่งบันทึกเรื่องการนวดไว้ตั้งแต่สมัยพ่อขุนรามคำแหง
          ในสมัยโบราณนั้น ความรู้ในศาสตร์ ต่างๆ มักจะถูกถ่ายทอดกันเฉพาะครู กับลูกศิษย์เท่านั้น และในบางครั้งก็ถูกแก้ไขดัดแปลง ไปตามกาลเวลา โดยเฉพาะวิชาการแพทย์รวมถึง วิชาการนวดเพื่อรักษา ยิ่งมีผู้รู้และเล่าเรียนน้อยมาก

            ต่อมาในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา รัชสมัยของ สมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช การแพทย์แผนไทยนั้นเจริญรุ่งเรืองมาก ซึ่งการนวดแผนไทยนั้นก็เป็นสาขาหนึ่งของวิชาการแพทย์ในสมัยนั้น ถึงขนาดว่า ผู้ทำการนวด ( ซึ่งถูกเรียกเรียกว่า หมอมาตั้งแต่ยุคก่อนนั้น ) มียศถาบรรดาศักดิ์ เป็นปลัดฝ่ายขวา ในสังกัดกรมหมอนวด มีศักดิ์300-400ไร่ ( สมัยนั้นวัดศักดฺิ์กันที่ตรงการได้รับพระราชทานที่ดินนี่แหล่ะ) ทางยูโรปเองยังมีหลักฐานจากกจดหมายเหตุของราชทูตลูแบร์ แห่งประเทศฝรั่งเศส บันทึกเรื่องหมอนวดในแผ่นดินสยามว่า " ในกรุงสยามนั้น ถ้ามีใครเจ้บป่วยไข้ ก็จะทำการยืดเส้นสาย โดยผู้ชำนาญทางวิชานี้ ขึ้นไป บนร่างกายคนไข้ แล้วใช้เท้าเหยียบไปตามร่างกายคนไข้"

               จนมาถึงสมัยกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ การแพทย์แผนไทยได้รับสืบทอดมาจากสมัยอยุธยา แต่ความรู้บางส่วน สูญหายไปในช่วงภาวะสงคราม พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธะยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก ทรงโปรดให้ระดมช่างปั้นรูปฤาษีดัดตน 80 ท่า และจารึกสรรพวิชาการนวดไทย ลงบนแผ่นหินอ่อน 60 ภาพ แสดงจุนวดอย่างละเอิยด ประดับบนผนังศาลาราย และบนเสาภายในวัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมัคลาราม เพื่อให้ประชาชนได้ศึกษาได้โดยทั่วกัน

                        ในพ.ศ.2375 รัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระนั่งเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้บูรณะวัดโพธิ์ขึ้นมาใหม่ ทรงให้หล่อรูปฤาษีดัดตน เป็นโลหะ และทรงให้รวบรวมตำราการนวด และตำราการแพทย์ จารึกในวัดโพธิ์ พิมพ์เผยแพร่ให้ประชาชน ทั่วไปได้ศึกษา และนำความรู้ไปใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อไป
                         ในพ.ศ.2397 พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงโปรดให้หมอนวด และหมอยา ถวายการรักษาความเจ็บป่วย ยามทรงพระประชวร แม้เสด็จประพาสแห่งใด ต้องมีหมอนวดถวายงานทุกครั้ง
                         ในพ.ศ.2499 พระบาทสมเด็จพระปิยมหาราช ทรงโปรดเกล้าฯให้แพทย์หลวงทำการสังคายนา และแปลตาราแพทย์จาแภาษาบาลี และภาษา สันกฤตเป็นภาษาไทย มีชื่อเรียกว่า"ตำราแพทย์ศาสตร์ สงเคราะห์"

ปัจจุบัน วิชาการนวดแผนไทย ได้กลายเป็นสัญญลักษณ์ อีกอย่างหนึ่ง ของไทยที่คนรู้จักไปทั่วโลก .
